Lines Under Eyes

2The treatments we recommend for lines and wrinkles depend on your age, the condition of your skin and your lifestyle. It’s best to start with a free computerised skin analysis at your nearest clinic so one of our specialist nurses can identify any existing wrinkles, sun damage (including brown spots) and hyperpigmentation, assess your pore size and give you an accurate picture of your skin as it is now and what it will look like in 10 years.

Your nurse will then create a bespoke programme of treatment that will not only reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the short term, but also improve the condition of your skin in the long term.

There are other things that can accelerate skin ageing; these include over-exposure to the sun without adequate protection, genetics, smoking and drinking alcohol. Some people are more prone to poor cell regeneration and a slowdown in the production of collagen than others, but we can all delay the signs of ageing and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles under eyes, frown lines and forehead wrinkles.

There are many different treatments that you can undergo to get rid of lines under eyes. The treatments range from doctor-administered procedures to over-the-counter pharmaceuticals.

Laser Eye Treatments – corneal shields are placed to protect the eyes, and a fractionated CO2 laser light is run over affected areas to irritate the skin, thus stimulating the production of collagen as the skin heals. This treatment is used to tighten skin more gently.

Dermal Fillers – fillers are used primarily for wrinkles and fine lines under eyes. During the treatment, hyaluronic acid, a substance that attracts and binds water to skin, is injected into the affected areas to plump up skin and reduce wrinkles.

Botulinum Toxin Type A – Commonly referred to under its trade name of Botox or Dysport, Botulinum Toxin Type A is a non-lethal toxin that is injected into a muscle to cause it to atrophy. It is commonly used in areas where facial movements are the main culprit for wrinkles because it relaxes the muscles causing the wrinkles.

Dermabrasion or Microdermabrasion – during this treatment, fine wire brushes are used to remove the top layers of the skin, revealing newer, smoother skin, and reducing the appearance of lines under eyes.

When physician-administered treatments are not an option, under eye creams can also reduce wrinkles around eyes. When using creams or serums, you should always buy a treatment that is especially formulated to work on the sensitive skin around the eyes. The best drugstore eye creams are formulated with smaller molecules, so they penetrate and treat eye tissues more effectively.
